Programme

The Irish Design Research Conference forms the centerpiece of a programme of events being held to celebrate the design & creative heritage of Carlow. A broad range of interesting events will take place during the conference period. Regional partners include VISUAL Arts Centre, Eigse Arts Festival & Borris House Literary Festival and will also include other fringe events.

  • Augmented Reality @ VISUAL

In association with the Irish Design Research Conference, VISUAL Arts Centre will host a major international exhibition in ‘Augmented Reality’. While this engagement seeks to interface between reality & unreality it also bridges the knowledge spaces between art, design & technology.

The exhibition will also feature a collaborative project which engages design students under the guidance of a fine artist who will use the latest technological AR Software tools to develop a work which explores bridging the faultline between ‘institution’ and ‘local community’.

  • JUNCTURE
    This annual exhibition of graduating Honours Degree work from the Product Design & Innovation programme with repreventative undergraduate work from across the years will showcase the best of emerging undergraduate design actions in 2015.

  • 40 YEARS of DESIGN
    To celebrate the 40 Years from the very first graduating class of design in 1975, the Institute of Technology Carlow will host a Design Alumni Reunion of 40 Years of the Past Graduates of Design drawing graduates back to the Institute from across the world.

  • EIGSE – Carlow Arts Festival
    Conference delegates may wish to engage and immerse themselves in the rich and energetic annual EIGSE arts festival which takes place around Carlow each year. There is a superb programme of events this year and the many associated events will run in parallel with this years Irish Design Research Conference.
